I walked along the lake, my scarf tightly wrapped around me. It was a chilly winter evening and the sun was just about to set. My eyes wandered around looking for him.
'He promised he will come.' I thought to myself.
I kept on walking, my strides long and confident. Finally, I saw the silhouette of someone standing at the edge of the lake. I knew it was him, how wouldn't I? I had his every feature memorized. A smile made its way onto my lips as I stopped and gazed at him.
Standing against a huge rock, there he was in all his glory, looking at the lake with his back towards the gate of the forest. His head was down and it seemed as if he was thinking about something.
I moved towards him slowly, feeling nervous all of a sudden. As if he could feel my presence, his head snapped up and our eyes connected.
Dark chocolate brown. His eyes were so beautiful. I felt as if I could drown within them.
Then, his lips formed into a beautiful smile as he called out my name, "Val."
Almost immediately, my cheeks turned a faint shade of pink as I blushed. I smiled widely at him, fastening my pace. As soon as I reached near him, he engulfed me in a tight hug, holding me close. I wrapped my arms around him in response, pulling him closer. All my nerves disappeared as I breathed in his scent and heard his heartbeat.
But unfortunately, he pulled away too soon and I was left missing the warmth and safety his arms provided me with. He held my hand in his and pulled me towards the forest.
It was the first time we met alone and I was so excited to spend my time with him. With our fingers intertwined together, we entered the forest.
It was eerily dark and I could hear the faint noise of birds chirping. The atmosphere was cold and I could feel the cold seeping into my sweater. I tightened my hold on his hand and he pulled me closer, attempting to warm me up.
I smiled slightly, feeling happiness bubbling up inside me. His eyes darted to my face and he couldn't help but smile slightly at my flushed expression. My cheeks were slightly pink from the harsh weather and I felt as if I was going to freeze anytime. But even after that, I felt a strange kind of warmth in my chest, spreading all the way inside me till my fingertips. I was truly happy.
We were quite deep inside the forest, deep enough to keep any prying eyes away. It was drizzling, tiny raindrops falling on my white sweater, wetting it slightly. I squeezed his hand tightly, and he wrapped his arms around my shoulder.
"You are freezing." He said, brows furrowed in worry.
"It's alright. It happens. My body can't sustain cold temperature." I replied back.
"But still you can't help but like this harsh weather?" He asked back.
I smiled slightly, thinking how much he cared about me to remember these little details.
"Yes. I can't help it." I said, "Winters makes you realize the importance of warmth. Even though people see it as a very harsh weather, I can't see it as anything other than beautiful and soothing."
He smiled widely, wrinkles appearing at the corner of his eyes. He liked my answer, he always did. Though I never understood why. We were poles apart. Anybody could see that. Even our choices in colors were different. He loved dark colors while I preferred to wear bright and bold colors. He blends in with the crowd wherever he went while I tend to stand out. He was a silent person while I spoke a lot. There were very few similarities between us but somehow, our hearts were one. We were the same people from within. Wanting the same things and having the same morals. We were different but utterly same at the same time.
"I think we shouldn't go in further." He interrupted my chain of thoughts and continued, "I want to take you back to your place before it gets too late."
Again, he is so caring towards me. Never doing anything to hurt or endanger me.
"Yeah. Although I won't mind some extra time with you." I said cheekily, and he responded back with a hearty laugh. His laugh melted my heart. He rarely laughs this freely with others. On the few occasions that I have seen him in public, he always wears a plain smile, never expressing his emotions fully.
"You are so sweet." He said, his eyes flashing with love and adoration for me. My cheeks flushed a deeper shade of crimson and I smiled back at him. However, as the wind picked up its pace around us, I couldn't help but shiver slightly from the cold. My throat was paining a bit from breathing such cold air and my body was as cold as ice. A little puff of fog appeared every time I let out a breath. He noticed it, his eyes immediately filling with concern.
"Are you alright?" He asked, to which I whispered back, "It's...so...cold."
"Shit! We need to take you back right now." His eyes frantically scanned the surroundings, hoping to see someone. However, we were utterly and completely alone.
"No...its...okay." I whispered slowly, not wanting to stress him out even more.
Suddenly, he unzipped his jacket, took it off and wrapped it around me tightly, hoping to provide me with more heat. Pulling me closer, he wrapped his arms around me fully, my head on his chest as he rubbed my back, warming me up.
I was frozen at my spot in shock, unable to move. My cheeks turned a bright shade of pink when I realized how close he was to me. I rubbed my face in his shirt, smelling his cologne and wishing that time would stop.
He pulled back slightly, looking at my face. His eyes searched my eyes, trying to know if I am alright. I smiled slightly at him, assuring him that I won't freeze. His face immediately relaxed a bit and he let out a breath that he didn't knew he was holding.
It took me a moment to realize that we were still in our previous position, his arms wrapped around me with our faces just inches apart. My breath stuck in my throat as I saw him staring at me. His eyes wandered down to my lips and then back up. It felt as if time had stopped. Everything was frozen. We looked at each other for what felt like eternity before I stood on my toes and gently pressed my lips on his. I moved my lips slowly and soon he joined me. His hands around my waist while mine were around his neck, pulling him closer to me as I kissed him deeply, never wanting to let go.
It seemed that he wanted the same as soon our kiss turned passionate, his lips moving ferociously on mine, wanting more. I pulled back slightly to catch my breath and he pressed his forehead to mine, his eyes closed. I stared at his face which held a magical smile. I smiled goofily, closing my eyes too and savoring the sense of calmness he filled me with. And in that moment, I realized what I truly wanted. It was him. It had always been him. I didn't care if we were different or if people thought we weren't suited for one another. All I wanted was him. The way he made me feel peaceful and secure, no one had ever been able to do that.
I no more cared about the freezing weather around us or about how late it was getting. I was with him, and that's all what mattered. I was peaceful...and at home.
