What comes to your mind when I say the word, 'Superhero'? Maybe pictures of heroes from DC such as Superman? Or maybe you might imagine someone whom you are close to and who acted like a Superhero for you? Different people will have different answers. Everybody has their own understanding of what qualities of a person makes him or her a Superhero. For some it might be empathy, for some it will be courage while some will say willingness to help others in need makes a person a Hero. The answers can be endless. However, all of us must have noticed at some point that the Heroes which are portrayed on cinematic screens always have an edge over others; they have superpowers. Almost every Superhero that we see on screens have some sort of special powers that make them unique and capable. But isn't this hypocritical? Everyone knows such superpowers do not exist in real life but even then these are depicted as a crucial part of Hero's life.
Is it really important for a person to have them in order to become a 'Superhero'? Not really! Almost every child at some point in his or her life dreams about being a Superhero. But a child's version of a Superhero is quite different from us. If you ask a kid, "Hey! What kind of a Superhero do you wish to be?" most will say they wish to have this or that power and they want to fight bad people and save the world. Well, fighting villains and saving the world is not a problem, but wishing to have Superpowers might be! How did a child, who isn't even mature enough to understand how Superheroes save the world, start believing that superpowers are a necessary part of a Superhero's life? Doesn't it reflect how we all have been portraying half-truth to young minds?
Superpowers don't make a person Superhero, actions do. If a person is capable of doing a lot but ends up using his potential for causing destruction or harm to others, then no matter how many superpowers that person has, he cannot be called a Hero. Rather, he would be called a villain! (Movies are filled with tonnes of them) However, any person who tries and manages to help anybody in his entire lifetime deserves to be called a Hero. We are surrounded by so many Heroes, we come across many of them throughout our day but as we don't look at them that way, we miss recounting their heroic acts and eventually lose our chance to even recognize them as heroes.
Real heroes don't wear capes, instead they are hidden by the simplicity of our day to day lives and while we all are looking for heroes in fictional comics and movies, they are out there helping others. One such example of real life heroes are our parents who work all day and night for the family. No child in his or her life can repay what their parents have done for them, its impossible. Our mothers and father sacrifice so much for our happiness that their sacrifices can never be repaid in any form. Truly, they are the first and biggest heroes of our lives. It is our responsibility to shower them with love and respect and make sure that they never feel loss or regret because of us in their lives. Similarly, another example of real life heroes are doctors. Specially in these difficult times of pandemic, doctors are of most significance. They spent hours working at the hospitals in order to save hundreds of lives. Hats off to such amazing and brave doctors who have made our country proud.
Moreover, all those people whom we have come across that helps the society selflessly are the real life heroes. Any person who might have helped you in any situation should be called a hero. One should never forget their sacrifices and selfless attitude that make them who they are. Whether it be someone related to defense such as military or police or someone who picks up the garbage from our houses, all of them are heroes who serve the society selflessly. They are the ones whom we all are dependent upon for our safety, security, hygiene etc. We ought to respect them for we won't be alive, healthy and happy in our homes without their presence.
Appreciate and respect everyone for every person is a hero in someone's story. But respect and appreciation must start from yourself. One must learn to love and accept oneself before doing it for others. Remember, true respect and care comes from within you. If you are happy and satisfied with the good deeds you have done, you will automatically help more people and behave well with them. However, if you constantly feel bad about yourself you might just not be able to appreciate others for who they are. So, in order to appreciate the heroes out there, first recognize and accept the hero that lies deep within you. It will surely make this world a much brighter place!
